The Role of Data Science in Astronomy and Interstellar Exploration
Space has always been a fascinating frontier for humans. From the first satellite, Sputnik 1, in 1957, to the amazing Mars rovers, our adventures in space show our love for discovery, creativity, and courage. Exploring space is a big dream, always pushing us to learn more and go further. Nowadays, data science is making a meaningful contribution to space technology. It's changing how we think about space. Being able to gather, understand, and use lots of data has helped us get to know the universe better and has changed how we explore and move through space...

VOPlot v1.8 Beta
VOPlot v1.8Beta includes many enhancements and bug fixes. To name a few v1.8Beta supports multi-grid plots for 2D Scatter-Plot which allows the user to have multiple plots having grid size from 1x1 to 3x3 in a single window. Paginated view is added to see data in tabular format which allows user to navigate systematically. Provision to label Lat/Long lines is also added. Users can now plot a cumulative histogram for all histogram types. VOPlot 1.8Beta shows the metadata of a FITS file instantaneously while the actual loading happens in background. VOPlot v1.8Beta also provides better handling of "faulty data" while parsing an ASCII file.

06.10.1912 - 1941-10-??

Place of birth: Odessa city, Kherson province, Russian Empire

Key interests: photometry of Solar System bodies, minor bodies of the Solar System, photometry, variable stars, exploration of the Moon, Galaxy structure

Biography:

He was born 6 (on the Julian calendar or 19 on the Gregorian calendar) October 1912 in Odesa city of Kherson province of the Russian Empire in the Fedor Filaretovich Florya's family who was priest, teacher of Latin and Greek languages in Odessa gymnasium.

Being a disciple of 5th class work and school degree, boy became interested in astronomy. In 1925 he equipped his own observatory in Attic house in which he lived, where established binoculars, telescope and then later he was involved in urban folk astronomy observatory. Favourite area was Algol-type stars and Cepheids.

Afterfinished with training in the seven-year school he studied at the Technical profession School -II degree, which was later converted into chemical College.

After finishing school in 1930, at the invitation Tsesevych V.P. he moved to Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) and settled in house of astronomer Lange G. A. during the day time he worked on drawings in a factory in Leningrad, and on clear nights watched variable stars useing Culver's 300 millimeter reflector which was mounted on the roof of Lange G.A.

In 1932 became Fellow Tashkent Observatory, working as accompanying excursion groups and demonstrator, which deals with variable stars.

During 1935 (according to some sources the summer of 1936)-1940 he worked as a research secretary in P.K. Sternberg State Astronomical Institute.

When the Great Patriotic War, he was the senior employee in P.K. Sternberg State Astronomical Institute and have names scholarship and successfully completed work on his dissertation on the absorption of light in interstellar space, which was published by his colleagues in 1949.

He was married and has two sons.

During World War II he was assistant platoon commander management 2nd battery of 975 Artillery regiment 8th Krasnopresnensky militia division of Moscow City. He took part in repelling the Spas- Demyansky breakthrough and caught in precipitated southwest Vyazma. Latest information about him is dated October 5, 1941. Further his fate is unknown, his name was listed in the list of missing. Probably he died in Vyazmsky boiler.

He has worked in the field of observation of variable stars. Author of more than 30 scientific articles. In addition, he has published many scientific and popular articles, especially for children, in the journal "Pioneer" and the newspaper "Pioneer truth" and notes in the "Chronicle" of various meetings, conferences and plenums Astrorady USSR, articles institute wall newspaper "Vladilen", of which he was editor in 1937 - 1939. Also on the Rosenberg photometer at the Tajik Astronomical Observatory in Dushanbe city he spent photometric changes integrated light of the moon during lunar eclipses October 26, 1931 and September 14, 1932. and measured the brightness of Pluto in 1930 to 1933 saw a solar eclipse August 21, 1933 also observed the asteroid. He studied the absorption of light in interstellar space for a large number of areas, using color indicators of many stars, including weak. Determined distribution of absorbing matter within ± 25 pk from the Galactic plane.

Parenago P.P., Kukarkin B.V. and Florea M.F. found, as a result of revision of the basic stellar statistical data on globular clusters, a clear relationship between color excesses of clusters and their linear diameters.
