The Role of Data Science in Astronomy and Interstellar Exploration
Space has always been a fascinating frontier for humans. From the first satellite, Sputnik 1, in 1957, to the amazing Mars rovers, our adventures in space show our love for discovery, creativity, and courage. Exploring space is a big dream, always pushing us to learn more and go further. Nowadays, data science is making a meaningful contribution to space technology. It's changing how we think about space. Being able to gather, understand, and use lots of data has helped us get to know the universe better and has changed how we explore and move through space...

GRID-based Virtual Observatory VIRGO.UA
VO VIRGO.UA for cosmology and astrophysics is a segment of VO «Infrastructure»- a virtual organization, which deals with ensuring the provision of standards for Grid Services for virtual organizations, to ensure reliability functioning of the Ukrainian power grid, Grid training for users and administrators of the Grid sites, as well as the creation of technical conditions UNG for entry into the international grid community...

WDC-Ukraine
WDC-Ukraine is a part of World Data Center System of the International Council of Science (ICSU). Among the basic tasks of WDC-Ukraine there is collection, handling and storage of science data and giving access to it for usage both in science research and study process. That include contemporary tutoring technologies and resources of e-libraries and archives; remote access to own information resources for the wide circle of scientists from the universities and science institutions of Ukraine...

IVOA NEWSLETTER
US VAO Data Discovery Portal
Find datasets from thousands of astronomical collections known to the VO and over wide areas of the sky. This includes important collections from archives around the world. Feedback on your experience with the tool is appreciated -- please send your comments, suggestions, and questions to the VAO Help Desk.

US VAO Cross-Comparison Tool
Perform fast positional cross-matches between an input table of up to 1 million sources and common astronomical source catalogs, such as 2MASS, SDSS DR7 and USNO-B. Feedback on your experience with the tool is appreciated -- please send your comments, suggestions, and questions to the VAO Help Desk.

VOPlot v1.8 Beta
VOPlot v1.8Beta includes many enhancements and bug fixes. To name a few v1.8Beta supports multi-grid plots for 2D Scatter-Plot which allows the user to have multiple plots having grid size from 1x1 to 3x3 in a single window. Paginated view is added to see data in tabular format which allows user to navigate systematically. Provision to label Lat/Long lines is also added. Users can now plot a cumulative histogram for all histogram types. VOPlot 1.8Beta shows the metadata of a FITS file instantaneously while the actual loading happens in background. VOPlot v1.8Beta also provides better handling of "faulty data" while parsing an ASCII file.

Lomonosov Moscow State University); ScD Thesis: Photometric and spectral study of the central regions and nuclei of normal and peculiar galaxies (1989 Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory);

Biography:

She was born on January 17, 1928 in Balashov city of Saratov region of the Russian SSR.

In 1950, she graduated from M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University.

An employee of the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Simeiz city since 1952 (according to other data, in 1950 she was sent to work at the Simeiz branch of the Pulkovo observatory).

In 1962 (according to other data, in 1963), she defended her PhD thesis at M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University "Research of the inner spiral arm of the Galaxy close to the Sun at two sites in the Milky Way."

Together with L.P. Metik, they conducted a spectrophotometric study of the galaxy NGC1275 in the region of its nucleus using the 6th telescope at a scale of 17.5" in mm and an image of 1".

In 1989, she defended her doctoral thesis "Photometric and spectral studies of the central regions and nuclei of normal and peculiar galaxies" at the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory.

She is a member of the international Eurasian Astronomical Society.

She died on October 8, 2014 in the Naukovy village.

I.I. Pronik was the first assistant of A.B. Severny in observations on the coronagraph in Naukovych, but soon transferred to the department of physics of stars and nebulae and under the leadership of Academician G.A. Shayna studied the stars. She was one of the most active executors of the Shine Plan. In the course of this multi-year work, she classified the spectra and measured the brightness of about 5,400 stars in the constellations Sagittarius and the Eagle, and investigated the spatial distribution of density in the interstellar medium, determining the distance and interstellar absorption on the way to each star. A large part of these results was included in her PhD thesis. Many years later, I.I. Pronik carefully summed up the extensive research of the structure of the Galaxy, carried out according to the Shain Plan by Soviet scientists in the 1950s and 1960s, and in a number of publications restored the priority of G.A. Shain in the experimental substantiation of the concept of star formation from a diffuse medium, a concept that became generally accepted only after the discovery in the 1970s of giant molecular clouds.

In the last four decades, the main research direction of I.I. Pronik astronomy became a penetration. In the course of these studies, she received and analyzed a large amount of data from observations made by her with the help of the Shain telescope in the Crimea and the 6-meter telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences, she studied the morphology, photometric and kinematic features of many active galaxies, and as a result discovered the power relationship radiation in the Na line and color indicators of the central regions of galaxies, found systematic differences in the composition of the stellar population of the central regions and other morphological structures of normal and Seyfert galaxies, discovered blue condensations in the central regions of some active galaxies, which during spectral studies turned out to be massive clusters of hot stars and gas, also discovered emission lines in a number of galaxies with Seyfert nuclei. Some results of I.I. Pronik insights, particularly regarding the variability of active galactic cores at short time intervals, appeared pioneering and met with skepticism, but were later confirmed by many foreign researchers and included in her doctoral dissertation. I.I. Pronik took an active part in the analysis of unique data obtained on the "Astron" space station, which led to the detection of noticeable ultraviolet excesses in the spectra of early morphological types of galaxies.

Author of more than 180 scientific works.
