The Role of Data Science in Astronomy and Interstellar Exploration
Space has always been a fascinating frontier for humans. From the first satellite, Sputnik 1, in 1957, to the amazing Mars rovers, our adventures in space show our love for discovery, creativity, and courage. Exploring space is a big dream, always pushing us to learn more and go further. Nowadays, data science is making a meaningful contribution to space technology. It's changing how we think about space. Being able to gather, understand, and use lots of data has helped us get to know the universe better and has changed how we explore and move through space...

VOPlot v1.8 Beta
VOPlot v1.8Beta includes many enhancements and bug fixes. To name a few v1.8Beta supports multi-grid plots for 2D Scatter-Plot which allows the user to have multiple plots having grid size from 1x1 to 3x3 in a single window. Paginated view is added to see data in tabular format which allows user to navigate systematically. Provision to label Lat/Long lines is also added. Users can now plot a cumulative histogram for all histogram types. VOPlot 1.8Beta shows the metadata of a FITS file instantaneously while the actual loading happens in background. VOPlot v1.8Beta also provides better handling of "faulty data" while parsing an ASCII file.

Studied in: T. G. Shevchenko Kyiv State University (since 1999 Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University) (1953);

PhD Thesis: Photometric analysis of the structure of the tail of the comet Rent-Roland in 1957 III (1967 T. G. Shevchenko Kyiv Order of Lenin State University);

Biography:

She was born on February 20, 1929 in the Kryvtsya village of Stavyshchensky District of Kyiv region of Ukrainian SSR.

In 1948, she entered and in 1953 graduated from T. G. Shevchenko Kyiv State University, majoring in astronomy.

During 1953-1954, she worked as a senior laboratory technician at T.G. Shevchenko Kyiv State University.

During 1953-1956, she was a graduate student of the Physics Faculty of T.G. Shevchenko Kyiv State University, majoring in astrophysics.

During 1956-1958, she worked as an assistant at the Department of Astronomy of T.G. Shevchenko Kyiv University.

During 1958-1959, she worked as a laboratory assistant at T. G. Shevchenko Kyiv State University.

During 1959-1961, she was a referent of the Society for the Dissemination of Political and Scientific Knowledge of the Ukrainian SSR.

Since December 1961 to 1969, she worked as a Methodist lecturer at the Kyiv Planetarium.

In 1967, she defended her PhD thesis "Analysis of the Photometric Structure of the Tail of Comet Orend-Roland 1957 III" at the T. G. Shevchenko Kyiv Order of Lenin State University. Konoplyova V. P. was her scientific supervisor.

During 1969-1971, she worked as a deputy director for scientific work, head of the methodical department of the Kyiv Planetarium.

During 1971-July 1972, she was a junior scientist, and then until June 1975, she was an acting senior employee, and then a senior employee of the Tyksa Polar Geocosmophysical Observatory of the IKFIA YAFSO of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. Her group obtained unique photographic data of observations of the aurora borealis. She co-authored 1 monograph and 20 articles on the subject of astronomical and geophysical research, in particular, she studied the dynamics of the background glow of the auroral ionosphere in the emission of 6300 Å and bands with a fibrous structure. For the first time, stable local regions of aurora avoidance ("holes") appearing near local north in the region of the Harang rift were discovered, and their connection with the convective current in the magnetosphere was established. The scientist discovered the presence of a self-stabilization mechanism in the fibrous arc of the aurora borealis.

In 1973-1974, she was the organizer and leader of a high-latitude expedition to the island of Zhokhova,

In the winter of 1974-1975, she took part in the Soviet-French experiment "Araks".

In 1975, she reported on the XVI General Assembly of the IAGA in Grenoble, France.

K. Rosenbush discovered a new asteroid. She was the head of the NIR topic "Research of physical processes in the nuclei and atmospheres of comets" of the departmental plan of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR for 1981-1985, the topic of contract work, the scientific supervisor for the development of an astronomical television installation in the experimental production of the observatory. During the three years of work at the Main Astronomical Observatory of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, she published 7 scientific works. She was a member of the scientific and methodical council of the Kyiv Planetarium, was a scientific informant of the laboratory, gave lectures in the Ukrainian SSR on the line of the "Knowledge" society.

In 1985, together with Y. V. Syzonenko and P. P. Korsun, they observed Halley's Comet. She conducted spectral tracking of the comet on a 6-meter telescope.

In the same 1985, together with L. M. Shulman, they discovered the luminescence of cometary dust.

On June 15, 1988, she was dismissed from the Main Astronomical Observatory of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR in connection with reaching retirement age.
