Biography:

He was born on November 4, 1936 in the Iskrivka village of Yakymivskyi district of Zaporizhia region of Ukrainian SSR.

In 1958 he graduated from the Kyiv Order of Lenin Polytechnic Institute.

Since 1962 he worked at the Astronomical Observatory of the Kiev Order of Lenin of Taras Shevchenko State University.

In 1965 he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of the T. G. Shevchenko Kyiv Order of Lenin State University.

In 1970 he defended his dissertation "Position and proper motions of 520 near-pole stars" at the T. G. Shevchenko Kyiv Order of Lenin State University.

In 1992 he defended his doctoral dissertation "Consolidated catalogs of near-pole and bright stars and the connection of optical and radio interferometric reference systems" at the Main Astronomical Observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

During 1987-2001 he worked as the director of the Taras Shevchenko Kyiv State University.

In 1993, according to the results of the international program "Bright Stars" at the Astronomical Observatory of T. Shevchenko Kiev University in co-authorship with Mlotai O. A., Chernega M. Ya., Kanivets N. D. created "Consolidated catalog of positions and proper motions of 5115 bright stars for the epoch and equinox J2000.0.

He was vice-president of the Ukrainian Astronomical Association since 1997 to 2000, according to some sources since 1991, and was elected to the UAA Council at the V Congress.

The scientist was a member of the European Astronomical Society, worked in several commissions and working groups of the International Astronomical Union.

In 1995 he became a laureate of the award of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine named after M. P. Барабашова. He also received the title of Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine.

Scientist died at December 17, 2003.

Scientific works concern positional astronomy. He is a well-known specialist in meridian observations, known for creating stellar catalogs. In particular, he is the author of a consolidated catalog of positions and proper motions of near-polar stars, several meridional observational catalogs. He studied the relationship between fundamental and radio interferometric reference systems in the sky.

He is author of almost 130 scientific papers, including five monographs.
