The Role of Data Science in Astronomy and Interstellar Exploration
Space has always been a fascinating frontier for humans. From the first satellite, Sputnik 1, in 1957, to the amazing Mars rovers, our adventures in space show our love for discovery, creativity, and courage. Exploring space is a big dream, always pushing us to learn more and go further. Nowadays, data science is making a meaningful contribution to space technology. It's changing how we think about space. Being able to gather, understand, and use lots of data has helped us get to know the universe better and has changed how we explore and move through space...

VOPlot v1.8 Beta
VOPlot v1.8Beta includes many enhancements and bug fixes. To name a few v1.8Beta supports multi-grid plots for 2D Scatter-Plot which allows the user to have multiple plots having grid size from 1x1 to 3x3 in a single window. Paginated view is added to see data in tabular format which allows user to navigate systematically. Provision to label Lat/Long lines is also added. Users can now plot a cumulative histogram for all histogram types. VOPlot 1.8Beta shows the metadata of a FITS file instantaneously while the actual loading happens in background. VOPlot v1.8Beta also provides better handling of "faulty data" while parsing an ASCII file.

Place of birth: Ryabovo village, Vyatka province, Russian Empire (now Zuevka district, Kirov region, Russian Federation)

Studied in: Theological Seminary, Vyatka city, Vyatka Province, Russian Empire, now Kirov city, Kirov Region, Russian Federation) (1866-1872);

Key interests: observational astronomy, astronomy

Biography:

He was born on July 25th (according to the Julian calendar, or August 6, according to the Gregorian calendar) in 1856 in the Ryabovo village of the Vyatka province of the Russian Empire (now a village in the Zuev district of the Kirov region of the Russian Federation) in the priest's family. He is the younger brother of the artist Victor Vasnetsov.

He received general education in 1866-1872 at the Theological Seminary in Vyatka (now Kirov city). Drawing worked under the direction of his brother and artist E. F. Andrialli.

In 1872 he moved to St. Petersburg, was preparing to join the Imperial Academy of Arts, enjoyed the advice of P. P. Chistyakov. However, refused to join.

Since 1875 he worked as a teacher in the village of Bystrytsya, Orlovsky district, Vyatka province.

In 1878 he moved to Moscow, where he became a member of the Abramtsevo Art Circle. From 1880 to 1894 almost every other year he lived in Okhtyrka and Abramtsevo, wrote many landscapes on the outskirts of these places. Periodically worked in the ceramic and carpentry workshop Mamontov. For the sake of earning money, draw figures for the Moscow illustrated newspaper Gatsuk, and then for the Petersburg magazines "World Illustration" and "Scenic Survey". In these magazines Vasnetsov worked until 1886.

Many traveled to Russia and Europe. In 1881 he made a trip to Finland, in 1885-1891 he repeatedly visited Ukraine, in 1890-1891 he traveled to the Middle and Southern Urals, in 1895 - to the Caucasus, from 1898-1900 visited France, Germany and Italy.

In the late 1890s and early 1900s he worked as a decorating artist in the theaters of Moscow and St. Petersburg.

In 1898 he exhibited his works at the Munich Secession. In 1900 for the paintings "Winter Tale" and "Elegy" was awarded a silver medal at the World Exhibition in Paris. In 1900 he was elected an academician, in 1903 he became a full member of the Imperial Academy of Arts.

Actively engaged in social activities. Since 1900 he was a member of the Commission for the preservation of ancient monuments under the Moscow Archaeological Society, in 1901 he was elected a corresponding member, in 1906 he was a full member.

In 1908 he became one of the founding members of the Moscow Society of Astronomers (MOLA). It should be noted that in the childhood he showed great interest in the starry sky.

He displayed some of his astronomical observations on a canvas. For example, the picture "The solar eclipse near Vyatka Polyan" was written under the impression of the eclipse of 1887, and the "Solar Crown (from Karadag)" was written right after the eclipse of 8 (according to the Gregorian calendar, or 21 on the Julian calendar) in August 1914, which artist and astronomer watched with the help of binoculars on Mount Tete-Oba in the Crimea in the vicinity of the city of Theodosius. There he also made a very accurate picture of the solar crown and wrote a picture "The Lunar Shadow of Theodosius", which was soon proposed by Moscow Society of amateur astronomy.

He skillfully owned not only a brush, but a pen. The article "The Ring of Zarevo during the complete solar eclipse [1914]" was published in the "News of the Russian Astronomical Society" on the submission of the circle. And even earlier, on November 27, 1885, he observed, and then described "stellar rain" - the result of the meeting with the Earth meteor shower - the remains of Comet Biele.

It should be noted that he, in consultation with S.V. Orlova reproduced the text of the 22-year-old astronomer, "a Comet Halley," before the text, then a student of the Moscow University, and later an academician, AA Mikhailov's drawing of Halley's comet on the Moscow horizon (May-June 1910).

After the revolution of 1917, he was elected chairman of the Council of Art Organizations of Moscow. Worked in the commission "Old Moscow", since 1923 was its chairman.

During 1923-1930, the artist taught at the Crafts and Art College. In 1929 in theV. I. Lenin State Library of the USSR. hosted the first personal exhibition of the artist, timed to the 50th anniversary of his artistic activity. In 1930 he became a member of the Society of Realistic Artists.

He died on January 23, 1933 in the Moscow City.

Known as a painter, graphic artist, scenographer. He has written a number of articles on the history and theory of art, the archeology of Moscow, astronomy.

In memory of the brothers of Victor M. Vasnetsov and Apolinariya Mikhailovich Vasnetsov, L.V. Zhuravlev called the small celestial body of the solar system (3586) Vasnetsov (1969 EZ1 = 1974 SR = 1978 SW6 = 1981 KL1 = 1982 UE8 = 1982 VR6)
