Biography:
He was born on July 20, 1921 in Gomel city Gomel Province of Byelorussian SSR. The father is an employee, the mother is a doctor. In 1928 the family moved to Uzbekistan. In 1938 he graduated from school G2 in Tashkent and entered the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute named after VI Lenin. The following year he transferred to the physics department of Moscow State University and in the same year was drafted into the ranks of the Workers and peasants Red Army. During 1940-1941 he was a cadet of the Red Banner Military Aviation School of Communications. During the Great Patriotic War, which was part of World War II, he was a radio mechanic for assault regiments. He has medals "For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945" and "For the Liberation of Prague".
In 1950 he graduated from the Faculty of Physics of M. V. Lomosov Moscow State University with a degree in astrophysics, recovering after demobilization in 1945.
In 1951 he was admitted to the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory in the Department of Solar Physics (According to other sources, in 1952 he worked at the Simeiz base). He began his career as an astronomer as a junior researcher.
In 1957 he defended his dissertation "Features of internal movements and the glow of calm prominences".
In 1962 he received the title of senior researcher.
In 1967 he received the title of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, defending his dissertation "The structure of the chromosphere and some issues of solar activity in the chromosphere".
During 1976-1988 he worked as a senior researcher, head of the solar activity group of the World Data Center of the Interdepartmental Geophysical Committee.
He is a member of the International Astronomical Union.
He died on April 12, 1992.
He studied the solar chromosphere and issues of magnetic activity, performed a number of experimental and theoretical works. He improved the coronograph and devices for observing chromospheric flashes, developed a method of analysis of the solar spectrum to determine the content of lithium in the atmosphere and sunspots, the presence of other elements in the spectra of spots. He studied hydrodynamic processes, in particular the structure of the gas flow behind the shock wave front, conducted a series of laboratory experiments on the shock tube. Theoretical works are devoted to the problems of energy balance in the chromosphere, heating mechanisms, the formation of chromospheric flashes, turbulence in solar prominences.
During the International Geophysical Year E. E. Dubov coordinated observations of chromospheric flares at the country's observatory. In the Geophysical Committee he worked on the problems of the impact of solar activity on the Earth, on the creation of an information database on solar activity for international data exchange.
He has published about 100 scientific papers, several reviews and popular articles.
E. E/ Dubov is the editor of the translations of the book "Physics of the Solar Chromosphere", a collection of works of the IV Symposium on Space Gas Dynamics.
