The Role of Data Science in Astronomy and Interstellar Exploration
Space has always been a fascinating frontier for humans. From the first satellite, Sputnik 1, in 1957, to the amazing Mars rovers, our adventures in space show our love for discovery, creativity, and courage. Exploring space is a big dream, always pushing us to learn more and go further.Nowadays, data science is making a meaningful contribution to space technology. It's changing how we think about space. Being able to gather, understand, and use lots of data has helped us get to know the universe better and has changed how we explore and move through space. This article will examine how important data science is in space technology and how it's changing our journey into space. We'll cover how data science is making our space missions smarter and helping us solve the mysteries of space...

VOPlot v1.8 Beta
VOPlot v1.8Beta includes many enhancements and bug fixes. To name a few v1.8Beta supports multi-grid plots for 2D Scatter-Plot which allows the user to have multiple plots having grid size from 1x1 to 3x3 in a single window. Paginated view is added to see data in tabular format which allows user to navigate systematically. Provision to label Lat/Long lines is also added. Users can now plot a cumulative histogram for all histogram types. VOPlot 1.8Beta shows the metadata of a FITS file instantaneously while the actual loading happens in background. VOPlot v1.8Beta also provides better handling of "faulty data" while parsing an ASCII file.

Biography:

He was born in September 27, 1952 in the Krasnograd city of Kharkiv region of the Ukrainian SSR.

In 1974 he graduated from A. M. Gorky Kharkiv State University, where he has been worked since that time.

In 1987 he defended his Ph.D. thesis "Statistical properties of the nearest stars"

After graduating from the doctorate in the specialty "astrophysics, radio astronomy" and defense of his doctoral dissertation "Statistical laws in stellar systems" at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University in 2007 he received the position of professor of the Department of Astronomy and Space Informatics of the V. N. Karazin harkiv National University, and in 2013 already received the title of professor.

Since 1993 to 2004 he worked as the director of the astronomical observatory of the A. M. Gorky Kharkiv State University (since 2002, the Institute of Astronomy of the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv State University).

In 2000 at the 5th Congress and in 2009 at the VIII Congress of the Ukrainian Astronomical Association he was elected to the council of the UAA, in 2009 he was elected vice president of the Ukrainian Astronomical Association on issues of work with amateurs, popularization of astronomical knowledge.

Since the creation in 1982 of the Working Group on "Searching for Solar Planets" at the Radio Astronomy Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, he was a scientist secretary of optical astronomy. In 1988 he was elected academic secretary of the Working Group "Single and multiple stars" at the Astrorady Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

He was the president of the Union of Planetarians of Ukraine, a scientist secretary of the Council on the issue of "Astronomy" of the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, awarded the honors "Excellence in Education", a member of the International and European Astronomical Unions, a member of the editorial board of the magazines "Herald of the Astronomical School" and "Our Sky » The scientist is a member of two special councils on astronomical specialties at the KhNU Karazin and the National Aviation University. Astronomer teaches courses: general astrophysics, star and galactic astronomy, introduction to astrophysics and cosmogony and conducts special seminars at the KhNU.

Scientific researches of the astrophysicist are devoted to questions of physics of stars and subzir, exoplanets, stellar astronomy, statistical cosmogony, and the history of astronomy.

Since time then studies in the field of astrophysics stellar and extragalactic astronomy, as an astrophysicist in the specialty was restored with his participation in the Kharkiv University he conducts research in these areas. In 1978-1983, the speckle-interferometric search method of exoplanets was proposed and modeled. Within the framework of the work carried out by scientists together with Yu.V. Aleksandrov in 1980-1983, the definition of "planets", as cosmic bodies of the Universe, and not just the solar system, has been given, which made it possible to foresee a new class of cosmic bodies named sub-stars, which were discovered in 1995, and for the first time to write a mathematical algorithm for calculating the partial content of planetary systems near other stars. In 1979-2002, an astrophysical directory of stars which are closer than 10 pc from the Sun was compiled. The numbering in the catalog was carried out under the acronym Zkh. And in the years 1980-1997, its statistical analysis was carried out and the stellar nature of the 7 components of spectral-double vision was substantiated, which are now in the SIMBAD database, are listed in the numbers Zkh. There are the components with numbers 7, 17, 100, 182, 206, 228, 275. During 1996-2007, he, together with A. I. Pisarenko, developed algorithm and carried out by him the calculations of models of the internal structure of sub-stars for all possible intervals of masses and elemental composition and during 1999-2004 he and Yu. F. Pedash conducted analysis of the chemical composition of their atmospheres. In 2008, the partial mass content of the sub-stars was determined at the level of ~ 10% for the received spectrum of masses of the nearest environment of stars and sub-stars. Thus, in 1995-2009, a statistical cosmogony was created as a new unit in astronomy, within which a theory was developed for the calculation of the content of star systems and their components at different stages of their evolution, based on probability theory, mathematical statistics and graph theory, and during 1996-2017 the classification of cosmic bodies has been developed, depending on their initial masses and elemental composition, and the classification of star systems has been modernized, the largest of which is the hypersubstration of galaxies. In 2013, a new geometric method for determining the distances to space objects, the basis of which is the path that was passed by the Sun during the earth's year on its galactocentric orbit, is proposed. Astronomer performed a series of studies in stellar statistics, in which the general expression of the mass spectra of star clusters was first obtained in 2001, depending on their age, and in 2013 the dependence of lifetime visions of populations I and III on the stage of the main sequence from their initial mass was obtained. and the rationale for the maximal mass for the stars of the disk of the Galaxy.

On October 6, 2019 the astronomer scientist died.

He is the author of more than 230 scientific works and three textbooks on astronomy. About ten reviews, written independently, and with leading astronomers in Ukraine and Russia, are devoted to the methods of searching substars and exoplanets, the problems of stellar statistics, the evolution of galaxies, ambient solar environment, the nature of invisible satellites of sight, and around the sun discs, etc.
