For as long as humanity has gazed upward, the night sky has been a source of fascination, wonder, and endless curiosity. The stars that light up the dark canvas of the night, the planets that dance across the sky, and the boundless mysteries of the universe invite us to question, explore, and dream. This guide serves as a compass to understand the vast realm of astronomy, lead you through the cosmos, enhance your understanding of the world, and inspire you to discover your place within this universe....

The Role of Data Science in Astronomy and Interstellar Exploration
Space has always been a fascinating frontier for humans. From the first satellite, Sputnik 1, in 1957, to the amazing Mars rovers, our adventures in space show our love for discovery, creativity, and courage. Exploring space is a big dream, always pushing us to learn more and go further.Nowadays, data science is making a meaningful contribution to space technology. It's changing how we think about space. Being able to gather, understand, and use lots of data has helped us get to know the universe better and has changed how we explore and move through space.This article will examine how important data science is in space technology and how it's changing our journey into space. We'll cover how data science is making our space missions smarter and helping us solve the mysteries of space...

GRID-based Virtual Observatory VIRGO.UA
VO VIRGO.UA for cosmology and astrophysics is a segment of VO «Infrastructure»- a virtual organization, which deals with ensuring the provision of standards for Grid Services for virtual organizations, to ensure reliability functioning of the Ukrainian power grid, Grid training for users and administrators of the Grid sites, as well as the creation of technical conditions UNG for entry into the international grid community...

IVOA NEWSLETTER
US VAO Data Discovery Portal
Find datasets from thousands of astronomical collections known to the VO and over wide areas of the sky. This includes important collections from archives around the world. Feedback on your experience with the tool is appreciated -- please send your comments, suggestions, and questions to the VAO Help Desk.

US VAO Cross-Comparison Tool
Perform fast positional cross-matches between an input table of up to 1 million sources and common astronomical source catalogs, such as 2MASS, SDSS DR7 and USNO-B. Feedback on your experience with the tool is appreciated -- please send your comments, suggestions, and questions to the VAO Help Desk.

VOPlot v1.8 Beta
VOPlot v1.8Beta includes many enhancements and bug fixes. To name a few v1.8Beta supports multi-grid plots for 2D Scatter-Plot which allows the user to have multiple plots having grid size from 1x1 to 3x3 in a single window. Paginated view is added to see data in tabular format which allows user to navigate systematically. Provision to label Lat/Long lines is also added. Users can now plot a cumulative histogram for all histogram types. VOPlot 1.8Beta shows the metadata of a FITS file instantaneously while the actual loading happens in background. VOPlot v1.8Beta also provides better handling of "faulty data" while parsing an ASCII file.

 Karachentseva (Kabakova) Valentina Yukhimovna

General data:

Born: 14.07.1940

Place of birth: Chernihiv city, Chernihiv region, Ukrainian SSR

Studied in: T. G. Shevchenko Kyiv Order of Lenin State University (since 1999 Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University) (1962);

Key interests: extragalactic astronomy. PhD Thesis: Search and study of dwarf galaxies of the Sculptor type (1975 Yerevan State University); ScD Thesis: New catalogs of galaxies (1996 Astronomical Observatory, Taras Shevchenko Kyiv University);

Biography:

She was born July 14, 1940 in Chernihiv city of Chernihiv region of Ukrainian PCP.

In 1966 she graduated from Department of Astronomy of the Faculty of Physics of T. G. Shevchenko Kyiv Order of Lenin State University.

During 1962-1964, 1967-1971, 1988-2002 she worked at the Shevchenko University.

During 1964-1967 she worked at the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian-Romanian People's Republic of Armenia, during 1971-1988 she worked at the Special Astrophysical Observatory, where since November 5, 1986 she became a senior researcher, and since July 1, 2009, the scientist is a leading researcher the scientist is a member of the Main Astronomical Observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where she worked at the Laboratory of Astro-Informatics, and since 2016 she works n Laboratory conducted a large-scale structure of the Universe.

In 1975 she defended her Ph.D. thesis "Search and study of dwarf galaxies of the Sculptor type"on the specialty "Astrophysics, Radio Astronomy" at Yerevan State University.

In 1996 she defended a doctoral dissertation at the Astronomical Observatory of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv University on the theme: "New catalogs of galaxies" on the specialty "Astrophysics, Radio Astronomy".

She is a specialist in extragalactic astronomy. The main field of work is astronomy of extragalactic and observational cosmology.

At the First Palomar Sky Survey, about 300 dwarf galaxies of low surface lumens were discovered by she and astronomer showed that their distribution in the sky traces the distribution of bright galaxies. Altogether, together with I.D. Karachentsev, more than 600 weak and extremely weak dwarf galaxies were found, most of which later explored with the help of world-wide powerful optical and radio telescopes, as well as on the Hubble Space Telescope. Based on the results of these observations, we obtained a picture of the spatial distribution of galaxies in the Local Volume.

The author of the catalog of isolated galaxies, on the basis of which estimated the relative number of spatially isolated galaxies less than 3%, which is confirmed by the current picture of the origin of large-scale distribution of galaxies. On the basis of modern optical and infrared observations, the sky created (with co-authors) catalogs of low surface brightness dwarf galaxies, triple systems of galaxies, thin, spiral galaxies oriented from the edge. The last directory is used to study large-scale space currents.

In 2010, she, together with Mitronova V.E., Melnyk O.V., Karachentsev I.D. created the "Catalog of isolated galaxies, selected from the review of 2MASS."

In 2011 she, together with Karachentsev, I.D., Makarov D.I. and Melnyk O.V. created the "Catalog of close isolated galaxies in the volume z <0.01".

According to studies of isolated galaxies, it has proven that their volume or design share does not exceed 5% of the population of galaxies - this result is fundamental to the theory of the formation and evolution of galaxies.

She is a member of the International Astronomy Society "AstrO".

Astronomer is author and co-author of more than 170 scientific works.

For 25 years he was engaged in editorial and publishing activities in astronomical publications Astrophysics, Space Physics Problems, and Communications of the CAO. Member of the ECA and MAS, during 2004-2009, she was a member of the Organizing Committee of the 28 "Galaxy" MAS.

He was a research supervisor and responsible executor of several projects. In 2001 she became the laureate of the Fedorov Prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

In 2014, she became the laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology for the work "The structure and evolution of the universe on the galactic and cosmological scales, latent mass and dark energy: theoretical models and observational results" among the co-authors.

In 2015 She was awarded the title "Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine"
